WHAT IS HIIT?
HIIT stands for High-Intensity Interval Training. It’s a type of exercise that involves alternating between intense bursts of activity and short periods of rest or lower-intensity activity.
Here’s how it works: Instead of doing a steady-paced workout for a long period of time, like jogging for 30 minutes, HIIT involves short bursts of very intense exercise, like sprinting or doing jumping jacks, followed by a brief recovery period, such as walking or resting. This cycle is repeated multiple times during a workout session.

The idea behind HIIT is to push your body to its maximum effort during the intense intervals, which helps to improve your cardiovascular fitness, build strength, and burn calories. The short rest periods allow you to catch your breath and recover a bit before the next intense interval.
HIIT workouts can be done with various exercises, such as running, cycling, jumping rope, or bodyweight exercises like squats and burpees. The duration of the intense intervals and the rest periods can be adjusted based on your fitness level and goals.
The benefits of HIIT include improved cardiovascular health, increased metabolism, fat loss, and overall fitness improvement. It’s a time-efficient way to get a good workout, as HIIT sessions are usually shorter than traditional steady-state workouts.
However, it’s important to note that HIIT is quite intense, so it may not be suitable for everyone, especially if you have certain health conditions or are new to exercise. It’s always a good idea to consult with a healthcare professional before starting any new exercise program.
Worcester Fitness Flyers and YWCA Successfully Raise Funds for Pool Starting Blocks
The Worcester Fitness Flyers organized a swim-a-thon challenge in October 2022 at the YWCA facility, their current practice location. The goal was to raise funds for purchasing starting blocks for the YWCA pool. The challenge attracted 16 swimmers aged 7-15, who solicited donations to reach their goal. They successfully raised enough money for one starting block, with additional funds contributed by Worcester Fitness. In total, five starting blocks were purchased, and Worcester Fitness covered the installation costs with a generous contribution of $20,000.
